As a Medical Transcriptionist, you will transcribe notes and complete transcription reports. You will need the knowledge and skills to transcribe and interpret the dictation into diagnostic test results, operative reports, referral letters, and other documents. This is a fast-paced job where attention to detail counts. The Medical Transcriptionist has direct impact on claimant health, well-being and sense of security. The ability to transcribe and communicate effectively within tight time frames, is an integral part of success in this role.


Job Responsibilities:

Operations: Promote and maintains a positive, professional image of EXL. Participates in special projects as directed by Leadership.

Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication is essential.

As a Medical Transcriptionist, You Are Responsible for:


  • Listening to the recorded dictation of a doctor or other healthcare professional
  • Transcribe and interpret the dictation into diagnostic test results, operative reports, referral letters, and other documents
  • Review and edit drafts prepared by speech recognition software, making sure that the transcription is correct, complete, and has a consistent style
  • Translate medical abbreviations and jargon into the appropriate long form
  • Identify inconsistencies, errors, and missing information within a report that could compromise patient care
  • Follow up with the healthcare provider to ensure the accuracy of the reports
  • Submit health records for physicians to approve
  • Follow patient confidentiality guidelines and legal documentation requirements
  • Enter transcribed reports into electronic systems
  • Perform quality improvement audits (as needed)
  • Understand Operations and Corporate Compliance, Policies and Procedures and Best Practices.
  • Stay abreast of ongoing trainings associated with role and business unit objectives.
  • Respond to all telephonic and email inquiries within client service protocols (SOW) in a clear, concise and timely manner.
  • Other duties as outlined by leadership.



  • 2-4 years’ experience in Medical Transcription with high volume and quick turnaround
  • Proven ability to organize and prioritize; demonstrated success in multitasking and managing multiple, competing priorities.
  • Strong ability to communicate at all levels with clarity and precision, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to adapt in a changing work environment.
  • Computer skills, including MS Word, Outlook, Share Point, etc.
  • Critical-thinking skills

  • Time-management skills



  • 1-year certificate program or 2-year associate’s degree in Medical Transcription
  • Extensive knowledge in anatomy, medical terminology, risk management, legal issues relating to healthcare documentation
  • Proficient in English grammar and punctuation.
Work Experience Requirements:
  • 2-4 years’ experience in Medical Transcription with high volume and quick turnaround
